The Joy of Stationary Stores!

An afternoon well spent at Goods for the Study in NYC!

It’s been a very snowy few days on Long Island! My kids were off from school last week due to their February mid-winter break and today is the first day that they have been back in school. On Sunday, snow started falling and kept coming down - so much so that schools were closed on Monday and again on Tuesday (though my kids had remote instruction on Tuesday). Today, we are finally back into our normal routine!

Before the snow fell, we made it into NYC for an afternoon adventure. I have been wanting to visit the stationary store Goods for the Study for a while and my kids are always up for a trip to a stationary store.

Well, what a fun store! We visited the Nolita location, which is actually two stores next to one another. One has notebooks and paper products and the other has all sorts of writing utensils - pens in every color, colored pencils, and highlighters - to name just a few! My kids and I had so much fun looking at everything and the best was that both stores were packed! I joked that analog is coming back in style!

My kids each picked out a few colored pencils and pens and a notebook with a cat face on it (they had to get that when they saw it!). Taking them there has led to them writing more frequently. They were both really excited to use their new products, so they got to work writing.

In an upcoming podcast episode, I speak with an educator about the importance of writing and we end the conversation with tips for what can be done at home. One suggestion is to let your kids pick out fun paper and writing tools - it makes writing that much more fun!
