Yay! It’s Finally May!

New Planning Tools for 2025-2026!

Happy May! It’s finally May! May tends to be a very busy month for me because of my job and also my kids. It’s the end of the semester, the end of the academic year, and it’s nearing the end of the school year for my kids. It’s usually lots of good things happening, which is great. May is also nicer weather - which I am very much looking forward to right now!

Some things I am looking forward to this month:

  • Graduation: My students will graduate in mid-May. It’s a fun day and I really love celebrating all of their hard work and their accomplishments. Many of my students are being hired for teaching positions, so it will make graduation even more special. Often my students will contemplate attending graduation. I encourage them to attend and celebrate these moments. I have learned that the celebrations do not happen the same way as they do when you are younger.

  • The Gold Coast Book Fair: This month is the Gold Coast Book Fair on Long Island. It is not too far from where I live. I am really looking forward to attending. My older daughter and I will be attending the talk with Gretchen Rubin. I was not able to attend her live event for her latest book, The Secrets of Adulthood in New York City, so I am thrilled to be able to see her at this book fair.

  • New Planners and Planning Tools: I like to plan my life in the academic year format. So, I like my planner to start in July or August so that I can have the whole academic year in one planner. I use Erin Condren planners (yes - plural!) and they have just arrived. I’m looking forward to setting everything up so that I can start to see what is ahead for the next school year.

  • Gearing Up for the 2025-2026 Academic Year: At the end of May, I’ll spend some time on my own and with my colleague figuring out the 2025-2026 academic year. I will look at the classes I am teaching and begin to select books for the classes and make a list of any updated materials that I need for next year. I was not as thorough about this last year, so I am really looking forward to being more organized and intentional about it this year. The college has posted the calendar for next year and my kids’ school district has the calendar for next year posted - this makes it easier to get this planning somewhat started before the summer.
